Between Time and Time

Art is a window into human life and culture, and it is one of the fields most sensitive to changes in the times. Technological advancements have transformed the forms and content of art, altering our understanding and expression of time. The exhibition ‘Between Times’ aims to explore the relationship between art and time and to examine how technology defines the temporality of art. The 12 artists participating in this exhibition express contemporary digital sensibilities through traditional techniques or reinterpret the aesthetics of the past using cutting-edge technology. Their works offer a unique and profound aesthetic experience, where cultural sentiments condensed from various contexts are fused with modern technology. We hope this exhibition provides an opportunity to appreciate the intricate relationship between art, time, and technology.

My creative process involves finding the peculiar within the mundane aspects of daily life. I take ordinary elements and exaggerate them to tell a comedic tale, evoke discomfort, or create visually striking narratives.

I have the great honor of being a member of Fellowship, a group comprising the world's foremost artists and AI creators. My works have been exhibited in galleries worldwide, including New York, Paris, Seoul, Toronto and Tallinn. Videos from the “Heat” series are featured in the collections of Claire Silver and Rudy Adler.

Wink Tokki

(South Korea)

Hong Haksoon created Tokki Code to document Circle World, the world of Wink Tokki. Tokki Code is Hong Haksoon's drawing style composed of symbols, shapes, and unique algorithms. Tokki Book, recorded in Tokki Code, has been in production since 1998 and as of 2023, it consists of 9 volumes and spans 12,000 pages. The main character, Wink Tokki, winks incessantly to send signals from Circle World to the universe. Hong Haksoon calls Wink Tokki a "shape organism" but to others, it could be an alien, a robot, or an unknown life form. One thing is clear, Wink Tokki freely explores familiar and unfamiliar worlds with curiosity. The symmetrical world of Wink Tokki, whose foundation is Tokki Code, expands into new stories such as Cosmos Clock, Deer Forest, and Squirrel Community Center, and is overall connected by symmetry. This reflects Hong Haksoon's vision of the unseen world. He showcases his work in various formats, including animation, painting, and NFT art series.
